Woody Fuchsia

Hi, I got 12 fuchsia's from a garden centre friend who was closing down. I got them in October after they had flowered. I replanted in different parts of the garden with new compost. Only 7 are  starting to show life, all in different parts of the garden, So I am confused, Why are the others looking sad, dead, sticky, brittle?  Thanks.

    Are they the same variety? Are they hardy? Some fuchsia are hardier than others and it would also depend where in the garden you have planted them - some might be in a more sheltered position.

    If you feel adventurous, try scraping a bit of bark to see if there’s any green underneath. If not, give them a bit more time. Fuchsias are late to leaf.

    Perhaps because they are dead - are you sure they were hardy varieties? 
    Even inside the greenhouse some of my non-hardies have had a tough time this winter,  and not all will make it.
