Planting after native arum dies back

I have a patch of native Arum maculatum in the garden which I love - though have to keep it under control as with the horsetail growing through it (see pic) - once it dies back it leaves a bare patch other than its berry stalks. Is there anything I could sow into the patch to give some summer foliage or flowers that will cope with living on top of such a dense plant when it’s dormant and won’t harm the arum?

    Yes, any annual you fancy.  Arum maculatum corms are tiny (2cm), deep (20+cm) and won't be bothered in the slightest by anything growing above them.  In fact, even if you plant a shrub on top, they'll still come up through the roots.
    A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
