Dead or alive?...

2 strawberry plants from previous years (some red leaves grew last year) and a penstemon. Dead or alive? Worth saving or better to replace? Thanks!

    They look fine to me.

The red leaves on strawberries sometimes indicate a bit of stress, or just that it’s autumn. 😊

Yes just waking up from hibernation, cut the dead bits off the penstemon
  • Thanks for your commenrs. Are the brown spots on the leaves of the penstemon a sign of disease at all?

I would take the strawberry out of the pot and check for vine weevils, mine get them more than any other plants and the strawberry will need new compost anyway.
The Penstemon is good, plant it out in the garden, it will do far better when it’s free to stretch its legs.  Cut off those little dead stalks first. The brown bits are just last year’s growth, once planted out it will take off with new beautiful green shoots.

  • All good. Just needs a bit of nice weather - bit like the rest of us!
