Paul's Scarlet Hawthorn Tree

Hi, this is one of two trees that I planted last year. I've noticed something growing from the trunk of this tree. I've looked online and I don't know if it's a sucker? It's growing downwards. Is this normal? Do I need to do anything? Thank you.

    For some reason it’s growing a root from a bit higher up than usual? I wouldnt do anything about it ... I’d just leave it to do whatever it’s doing.  Don’t think it’s a problem.  😊 

    Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
