Best soil for rosemary and lavender houseplants?

Surely they wont just be happy with basic houseplant soil? I know they like a well-draining soil. Whats the best soil/potting mix to plant them in? Thanks!

    They just won't be happy to be permanently indoors. They are Mediterranean plants and they need sunshine alongside free draining soil. Central heating would also make them be unhappy.

    Grow outside except in severe frost, French lavender, Lavanda stoechas ,the tenderest. though should be OK in England by now.
    English lavender, Lavanda angustifolia, totally hardy. Both lime lovers. Garden soil plus some road grit if you're not a limestone area - washed to remove the salt. It's nearly 100% limestone! Sunny, dryish conditions. Good luck!

    A mix of 50% perlite or grit and 50% compost (ideally John Innes no.2 or no.3) will be good for them once they are past the seedling stage.
    They won't be happy growing indoors long-term though
