Horrible fence at back of garden - but it’s not mine!

Hi there. I’ve attached pictures of my current fencing situation, and I’d like to figure out how to cheaply and effectively put something to cover it up before I fill the empty void with compost. The fence isn’t mine, isn’t well secured and isn’t straight. I worry that something like a bamboo screen might look a bit off.

You shouldn't really fill with compost against a fence, especially someone else's. I think you will have to make a little wall at the back to form the back of your planter, perhaps with sleepers or concrete gravel boards?

Perhaps the solution is to create your own fence line with two layers of concrete gravel boards to retain the ground.

Can you ask the fence owner for permission to paint or stain it a dark colour ... then fill the raised border with Stipa gigantea

you’ll not notice any defects in the fence with that in front of it.

Then you can paint the whole lot to blend in, and grow climbers up it as you see fit.
