Help,
Have never grown veg until lockdown.
Planted 5 Raspberry Ruby’s idaeus in large container-is this wrong?
They were planted in December and there’s no sign of life!
We have 3 raised beds and a cold frame and will probably need a lot of help.
Seeds in cold frame seem to be doing well!

Hi.  These are compact raspberries and suited to growing in containers but that means they are entirely dependent on you for feeding and watering.   Have you watered them since they were planted?  Is the container big enough and is it up on bricks or pot feet so excess water can drain rather than have the roots sitting in a sump and rotting?

I would certainly expect to see some new foliage starting to show by now but it's been a long cold winter and you don't say where you are or which way the garden faces so maybe they just need a bit more time.

@stockton.p I've got a raspberry planted in a large container (can't remember the variety), and it's only just shown it's first hint of growth this weekend. Like you, I thought it was a goner, but sometimes we just need a bit more patience! Definitely bear in mind all the stuff that @Obelixx has said, though, as they could all be a factor.
  • Thank you so much for your response.
I live north Cornwall and they are planted in a south west position.
  • Sorry south east position.

Our raspberries in the ground have only just burst into leaf in the last week or so, especially during the mini t-shirt and shorts heatwave at the end of last week.    Brass monkeys this week so other stuff in pots and in the ground has slowed down a bit.

I suggest you give yours a good watering once any frosts have passed and then cross your fingers.   If they do show signs of life, give them a good feed and keep them watered.
