adventitious roots (plants with...)

(I hope this is the right term...!) I am bringing this up this partly because I have some leggy tomatillos and intend to pot them on buried quite a way up their stems. I was wondering how far up the stem I can bury them.

But I'd also like some general advice on what other plants one can do this with, if possible. Obviosuly tomatoes can, but what else? Is it possible to do this with any flowering plants?

Here's a pic of one of my tomatillos:

Alas, I still seem unable to stop seedlings from becoming leggy, in spite of removing all seedlings from the propagator as soon as they've germinated, and in spite of using grow lights.
