Unknown plant growing in lawn

The pictures attached are part of my problem lawn, the grass depicted appears in the spring, is vigorous , spreads and then dies down.

I have treated this grass with selective lawn weed killer to no avail, can any one identify the offending grass and a method of getting rid of it?
