Clay soil

I have a damp clay bed. What plants would you suggest? So far I’ve planted hawthorn ( also a grapevine that’s doing ok) and a climbing rose.

    Hi @cheryldawnwillis and welcome 😊

can you tell us more about the garden and border please?  Whereabouts roughly you are, size of border, how much work you’re able to do, and the ‘style’ of garden you prefer ... that sort of thing.
Some photos would help too. 😊

  • In terms of sunnier spots rose and Buddleja doing really well I have a low growing one called buddleja buzz.
Pyracantha pretty happy in near full shade in a pretty waterlogged part of the border.
hydrangeas doing brilliant in the shady north facing part too....would recommend lime light and a lace cap one also as these get going a bit earlier.
I have a rhododendron and aezela doing really well too which I’m surprised it as I didn’t think my soil was particularly acidic.
I spent a lot of time improving my clay with FYM and compost last year and it’s made such a difference. I lost so many plants the first year I moved in because I didn’t do this so I can’t recommend this enough.

thanks! Trying to work out how to reply on this thread!
A buddlia I planted last year is virtually dead! I have put some mulch on recently so I’ll work that into the clay. Thanks for all your advice
