When to feed to lawn?

Hi everyone, I’ve just sown some grass seeds to cover some bold patches on my lawn, when shall I feed the lawn, in how many days, and should it be chicken manure pellets or some sort of general grass feed, what’s better?

  • I'd leave it for now.. let the grass seed germinate.
Why was it patchy in the first place tho?

If you read the instructions on most specialist lawn feeds they tell you not to treat new lawns ... so definitely don't use a proprietary lawn food.

Chicken manure pellets will be fine ... apply when you're expecting heavy rain ... or make a solution of seaweed powder and water it in ... but I wouldn't use either until the new grass is well established and has been mowed a few times.

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
