The Times also published an article, as I'm sure other broadsheets did.
Bird trapping doesn't help but has been going in since time immemorial. What has changed most and most rapidly in recent years is human activity with intensive farming, pesticides and herbicides which remove both safe habitat and food sources so bird numbers decline.

No one is saying trapping isn't a problem but it was also going on relatively recently while swallow populations were rising.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
