    Well, that's me told.

Not really a good idea to cite the Daily Mail as any kind of factual source.
I suppose you're also going to disagree with the United Nations view on the matter?

All I did was Google what I remembered hearing about and the first media link that popped up was the Daily Mail article. The Times also published an article, as I'm sure other broadsheets did.

Bird trapping doesn't help but has been going in since time immemorial.  What has changed most and most rapidly in recent years is human activity with intensive farming, pesticides and herbicides which remove both safe habitat and food sources so bird numbers decline.

  • We saw the first swallow on Good Friday ... just a lone swallow at the moment, but that's usual. We are in West Devon.

I posted the CMS link in a previous post.
"The Convention on Migratory Species (CMS), also known as the Bonn Convention, is an environmental treaty of the United Nations that provides a global platform for the conservation and sustainable use of terrestrial, aquatic and avian migratory animals and their habitats."
No one is saying trapping isn't a problem but it was also going on relatively recently while swallow populations were rising.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
