nemasys or nematodes to the soil as a “preventative” treatment?

Hi,

I’m currently digging up my small garden beds to improve the heavy clay soil.

Given all the plants have been dug out, I wanted to know whether it was a good idea to add any nemasys or nematodes to the soil as a “preventative” treatment. Is this advisable or just a marketing ploy? 

It doesn’t seem necessary but thought I would check given now would be the ideal time for application given the site is bare. Apart from the odd slug and snail, I haven’t seen either pest in question in my soil (my soil is that bad, even the pests are repelled!)

    If you haven't got a particular slug problem I wouldn't bother, it's quite expensive stuff.

    Thank you. Makes sense. Hadn’t even heard of the pests until I read some horror stories online! 😬

    Nematodes are very effective but, they are very specific,  and need a target host to infect. Also they need the soil to be warm and moist to work.  Even if you have a slug problem,  the nematodes would not survive at this early in the season to be effective.
