That is a bit untidy, but yew is tough as old boots so it won’t cause any real damage. However, you could neaten the appearance by cutting those branches and any other jagged bits back to where there are green shoots. 😊

Thanks guys. Went out with some snips and tidied up the edges. All going well should help regrowing etc.. I really wanted the hedge shaped but to keep the length. Unfortunately he took off a bit too much

The trick to increasing the size is to trim little and often ... several times a year, but each time leaving just a bit more of the stems ... that way it'll grow bigger but be nice and thick as well, which will improve it's screening ability.   Letting it grow longer before cutting it back will just result in long wispy growth which will not thicken up and become hedgelike ... it'll stay wispy.

So it’s been some time since the tree was cut and it still hasn’t grown at all... to add, some of the branch ends have turned an orangey / brown colour.. is this indicating somethings wrong with the yew?

April was cold and very dry.  Try watering it, generously and often for a few weeks.

I think patience is all that’s required. Its very early days yet and a cold spring means that everything is very delayed.
    I’m sure it’ll be fine 😊

Thank you both. Been a lot of rain here recently so that should help.
