Fox digging in raised bed

Any ideas how to deter foxes from digging in a raised bed/ planter?
It is quite hight and I've recently topped up with bagged compost and planted some salad onions... not sure why it's such a draw for the fox, but every time i come back to the allotment it has been ransacked! I have covered with wired hoop netting, but this has been dug out too!

He/she probably buried something in there a while ago, and is trying to retrieve it.  I found a buried hens egg in one of my raised beds last year, which is quite a common thing they like doing.  If they can still smell it, they'll keep coming back, so all you can do is have a root around to see if you can find anything.  Another possibility is if you used fish, blood and bone fertilizer (or that was already in the compost) - they can't resist the smell and think there's something dead buried there.
A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.

I had  a similar problem. I sunk a dish but I think an old tin would be better with a little bleach slightly into the soil . Not enough to overflow if it rained. The smell masked the scent and confused the fox.  It might be worth a try.
    In London. Keen but lazy.
  • How interesting, both of you... thank you!

I find hens eggs buried in my garden all the time.  Found the last one about a week ago.  Never see a fox but I'm sure he/she visits.
