Veg in the shade

Moved to a new house with small square garden (north facing), very little growing space owing to raised beds full of palms and bamboo etc  - would really like to grow some veg in container on the patio but they won't get much direct sun (if any) - is there any chance that I can get much to grow and any idea what might work?

Welcome to the forum. Greens like chard will do ok in partial shade.

Lettuce and beetroot should be fine plus have you thought about herbs as mint, parsley and chives don't mind shade.

Any leafy greens will be fine so all your cabbage, kale, sprouts, chard as said etc and salads.
Root vegetables should be ok such as carrots, radishes and beetroot as mentioned
I think it’s the veg that relies on flowers to create the fruit which might struggle so peas, beans etc but if you like them I would give them a go. You might get a smaller crop but given that one or two runner bean plants can easily create a surplus you might get just the right amount 🙂

thank you, it sounds like it is worth giving a variety of things a go this year  and see what happens then adjust for next year.  Thinking about it root veg / radishes can't need that much sun (I hope)
