Lemon lifeline...

Hello,

Hoping I can get some advice and rescue my Eureka lemon tree which I was bought last summer. I fleeced the tree up over winter but think it may have a) not had enough light and b) not been watered enough. I removed the fleece last week and found it shedding leaves and displaying dead ends to some of the branches.

I thoroughly soaked the tree/fed with a citrus tree feed and have set it in the sunniest part of the garden. The canopy (if you can even call it that!) appears to have half a dozen healthy-ish looking leaves and I'm hoping that I might have caught it in time. There are hardly any signs of new growth at all which is what concerns me. A couple of images for reference.

Any thoughts gratefully received.

Thanks.

Actually, I've just seen the post made by zsedeny who seems to be having similar issues. Will persevere with watering and compost regeneration...see how it goes.

Did you keep It outside and fleeced, apart from calamondin and mandarin, they are hardy to 10c, then they will loose their leaves, sounds like you are doing the right things.Where do you live?

I move my 3 citrus plants into the polytunnel for winter as I know that even here they can't cope with the winter cold.  In December/January I give them a special citrus feed which is high in P, K, magnesium and trace elements because they are still carrying fruits but also need to start flowering soon.

I normally bring them outside again in March to the sunny, south side of the house but not this year - too cold at night and some late frosts.   They will be brought out today or tomorrow once I see how the wind is blowing as I don't want them to get a shock and lose their flowers.

Now that yours has regenerated, keep it watered as needed and give it a good nitrogen or NPK balanced feed thru summer to keep those leaves healthy.   Keep it indoors next autumn once frosts are threatened and keep the foliage misted to avoid problems like red spider mite.
