FishPond plants and life

I have a medium size fishpond which thrives very well with lots of new fish each year.   There are two pumps at each end one running through a water barrel and the other through an ornament both with light filters.   There are a few marginal grasses.
I am in my late 70's and cannot manage to maintain the water lilies, which grow enormous and so quickly so these have been removed.    I want to put in some summer shade and possibly snails as there is quite a bit of sludge.   I do not have any oxygenating plants as the fish tend to eat these.
I am looking for recommendations for solutions with virtually no maintenance, as I would hate to have to drain and fill in as their is an abundance of wildlife that use it.
Thank you

Frogbit is very good at shading a pond , it appears in spring and disappears in autumn with zero maintenance involved , personally i'd dump the fish and let it become a true wildlife pond .

Why not try some of the dwarf water lilies. Some only spread 12-18”
