My old bamboo canes have live shoots!

I never knew old bamboo canes used for tying back numerous plants, runner beans ...you know ☺️Have started sending out shoots from every bifurcation! Anyone?

  • I'm confused - do you have a question?

There are many threads on this forum which do not have a specific question, but that rather invite general discussion of a particular matter and there are even some people who start multiple pointless question threads that they could easily have searched the internet for, yet this is the thread you choose to criticise.
Clearly the OP was asking if anyone else had experience of such a thing, which you obviously do not.

How old? I cut my own bamboo patch to keep a few for canes in the veg plot, and leave them to toast in the poly tunnel to kill them. They’ve never sprouted even in the first year, so you’ve done really well 😁. I’m wondering if they were fairly newly cut, and hadn’t completely dried out. Maybe all it takes is a tiny core of life and just the right conditions.
Carmarthenshire (mild, wet, windy). Loam over shale, very slightly sloping, so free draining. Mildly acidic or neutral.

    What? 31st March? 🤔

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
