grey or green for a fence in a small garden look best.

in Garden design
Hi would grey or green look best in a small garden, I have 46square metres of grass with a patio and raised beds around the sides, I'm hoping to make the garden appear bigger but not sure what colour to paint the fence. Thanks,

    Grey for me, there are already several shades of green in your garden, the fence colour will probably clash.

    Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.

    I've just picked grey for my new pergolas, not finished yet, fingers crossed they look ok. I'm going with Lyn's theory. 🙂

    Grey and the darker and blacker the better so the fence panels recede and all the greens stand out.

    Go for black. Sounds wrong and counter intuitive, but it will make your garden look really fesh.  IMHO grey can look quite utilitarian whereas black is crisp.  We painted our fences black, and the neighbour like it so much, they've done the same.  Looks modern and urban.

    There are some ‘almost black’ fence colours that really work ... they recede into the distance and show off the plants well. 😃 

    Our neighbours’ ‘battleship grey’ on the other hand makes their newly ‘landscaped’ and undoubtedly expensive garden resemble a prison exercise yard 😞. 

    Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.

    very , very  very dark grey would be my advice. I think some call it Black,

    I like muted greens like willow and I like medium to dark grey in modern gardens. In traditional gardens, I like brown or even dark green. Every time I see very dark grey or black, I don't like it, maybe with the exception of very modern gardens.
    I think it is completely a matter of personal preference, as long as it fits the space and the style of the garden (modern vs traditional, urban vs rural), there is no right or wrong.
