Broken bits of terracotta

B3B3 Posts: 27,505
I have a full bag for life of broken terracotta pots of various shapes and sizes. The biggest bits have already been used for planting sempervivens, sedum and the like.
As a last resort, I will put them in the bottom of containers.
Had anyone got a better idea?

In London. Keen but lazy.

I have seen (somewhere!) the smooth rounded edges of broken pots set vertically into a concrete path but it does seem rather a drastic and long winded use of one's time!

I use them as crocks in the bottom of pots ... used a good few this morning in the bottom of a shallow pot for sempervivums. 😊

I use them as crocks too.
I suppose if you broke them up quite small they could be used as a mulch (like gravel) or top-dressing on pots, for plants that like dry necks.

I was thinking the curves would make great places for snails to lurk so I discounted that idea @JennyJ . You're right Lizzie. Life's too short. Seen it done with 2ps too. Remember when we used to use cash?😊. I've seen terraccotta set in something to make garden tables too.
Looks like it's going to be crocks.

I was thinking broken up small enough not to have noticeable curves, but plenty of crock material is good to have in stock.

I suppose it's one of those things you don't need until you've got rid of it.
