Rhubarb

Can anyone advise if its ok to dig up a rhubarb plant now to re locate it - there are quite a few stalks on it already!  ?

  • I think January and February before the stalks start to shoot up is the recommended time to transplant rhubarb. Moving it with stalks and leaves would cause a greater risk of it drying out and dying due to the root disturbance.

Thank you I had suspected that would be the case but wanted confirmation as really could do with moving now - but will wait

Before it starts growing is the recommended time, however I moved mine in the middle of growing season last year and got a huge crop afterwards! The poor rhubarb has actually been moved a few times in the last number of years and has never suffered for it. I e had a few plants where a brush with death has galvanised them into superb performance actually!
