Ideas for this awkward space

Hi does any one have any ideas for this space? I’m in Lincolnshire and it face SW so gets a lot of sun.

Given its proximity to the house, I would like something to have well behaved and shallowish roots.

The previous owners filled it with tulips and blue bells (Spanish!) so I’m tempted to empty it completely and refill.

it’s about 1.5 ft wide and 1 ft deep.

I was tempted to put a dhalia there and see if it could survive the winter with a healthy dose of mulch and it’s proximity to the house?

any thoughts?

    You could stand a large pot on top.

    If it's at the front of the house I'd put something in that doesn't need any work at all. Probably some spring bulbs where I might have to pull the dead foliage off once a year.
    If it's at the back then I'd think about something climbing to hide those cables.

    I would refill it with a very gritty mix and put something low growing and spreading as others suggests. It's a very dry spot too, being so close to the wall. Erigeron or thyme might do well.

    Thanks for the suggestions...I’ve recently had the chimney behind it re-pointed so don’t fancy climbers...the pot was a great idea but there is a collection of pots just the other side..

    I was maybe thinking about African daisies? But it does appear a bit damper than I’d like..considering it’s next to the house...I’m wondering if it is just a concrete bowl..

    Edit...I think it’s bottomless and goes down to clay which might explain the damper than expected conditions
