What are these little critters on my Acer?

    Update:
These seem to have mostly, if not completely gone now.  I did spray a couple/few times with water with a drop of washing up detergent in.

I've seen plenty of blue tits pecking all over the acers, so I'm thinking that they are now clearing up what's left.

Of course, with the leaves coming out of the buds, it's a whole lot more surface area to see if there are any little critters around.

For one thing, these definitely did not turn into ladybird larvae, no matter how much I squinted at them.  So, yeah, aphids they were/are.

Darn, I see a whole load more on the potted Acers.  Let's hope the birds take a little look over these and hoover up these possible pests.
