Plant out peas?

ManderMander Posts: 349
I bought some pea plants at the supermarket about a week ago but it seemed too cold to put them in the ground yet. Currently they are in their original plastic cells in the unheated plastic greenhouse, but they are getting big and floppy so I probably need to do something soon. What's the best course of action? Separate them and put on in slightly larger pots in the greenhouse, containers in a warm-ish spot, in the ground and try to rig up a cover for them?

I'm in Gateshead so relatively cold here.

It's probably too cold to put them in the ground yet so you could pot them up into something larger. I use wooden kebab skewers for baby climbers to cling to.

I've put some in the ground over the last few weeks as I needed the space. I put jars on top of them, and they  look to be doing well. If it gets cold as it's predicted to in next few days I'll fleece them.

Apparently it's meant to freeze this weekend so they will stay in the greenhouse for now! I need to get some better pots for them but I will try the skewers or other small sticks.

Depends on the variety, Douce Province can be sown in October, but I never got a very good yeald, make sure you harden them off for at least a week anyway
