Soil not drying baby rubber plant

I pruned and repotted this baby rubber plant which I know doesn’t like a lot of water. It’s been a week and the soil hasn’t dried out (I’ve since read miracle gro house potting soil may be no good). Should I repot again using a different soil and if so which one might be better? I was thinking a soil made for succulents? Worried that the roots could have already rotted a bit

Does your pot have drainage holes? If not, you need to re-pot into one that does, otherwise the roots will rot in the standing water.

  • Yes it’s got drainage holes, it feels like the soil I bought it just really moist or something. The plant has been ok so far except a leaf has dropped off and another has started to get black spots

I would try moving it to a position with more light to see if that helps.
I just use garden centre compost designed for using in pot plants, and use liquid feed every couple of weeks or more during the growing season, and only water during the winter. I only water when the soil is dry sticking a finger down to my second knuckle.

You could try repotting in a John Innes compost as they are generally less prone to holding onto excess liquid. Westlands seems okay though I have had problems with Levingtons in the past.
By pruning your rubber plant when re-potting, you would have temporarily cut down on the amount of water the plant needed so it won't be sucking up the moisture as fast as it did before.
