Ceanothus Frost Damage

A Ceanothus Southmead had been full of vigorous growth but frost has killed all buds and most of the bush.  It is 6' tall, a bit of a bully and needs reducing in girth.  If I cut it back hard now (end of March), will it survive?

  • Ceanothus are short lived plants. If you leave it, it may survive but will probably die next year after a year of unsightliness. If you cut it down it will almost certainly die. Take it out and replace would be my suggestion.
  • Thank you for your rather depressing - but no doubt accurate advice.
