Best sand for lawn dressing

I’m just about to start my lawn prep for the year, it’s going to need a good seeding this year due to heavy use over winter.
I’m going to spike the ground with a fork before seeding, I was wondering what sand people use? Is normal sharp sand ok or does it have to be fancy expensive horticultural sand?!
Also, another quick question about seeding... I was told that mixing the seed and top soil together before putting down is a good idea?
