Bare Root Cherry Tree - rogue root?

Hi guys,

I've received a bare root Lapins cherry tree, bought online. It's grafted onto a semi-vigorous Colt rootstock. I think I know I'm supposed to ensure that I don't plant above the graft point, but there appears to be a rogue root from above.

I'd really appreciate any thoughts on whether the root should be snipped off and to just make sure the soil level is below that point, or whether I shouldn't worry too much.

Many thanks
David

I would say yes, remove, as that root appears to have developed from above the graft, so looks like one of the tree's own roots.  That could take over and the tree's growth wouldn't then be controlled by the vigour of the rootstock.
A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
