Broad Beans dying

I planted out my broad bean seedling about a week and half ago. I noticed they went droopy and few days later they have turned black. Does anyone know what may have caused this?

Did you harden them off well before planting them out?

If not the growth may have been too soft and they’ve been hit by frost.

  • I did but maybe should have done it over a longer period. I was stuck for space and I know broad beans are a hardy crop. I don’t think we have had a frost since I planted them out but it has been close to 0°c a few nights.

Im hoping that is the reason and not a soil problem.

I planted mine in the autumn they were hardened off,and although hardy,it did say in (other) garden mag to cover in case of frost,so I then put a cloche over them

Our first planting was a disaster.
The plants were hardened off and looked great for a few days.
Then we noticed that the stems were lying on the soil and this continued.
We decided that (once we had netted them and it continued) that as they was no sign of the old seed that maybe mice had taken out this and left the stems.
All gone and hopefully our latest planting will succeed.
