Peony planted too shallow??

I think I’ve not planted this peony correctly. Should I replant it this autumn?

  • It is a bit. Try to get it so the fleshy tuberous brown roots are buried but the buds are visible at soil level. For this season, I'd suggest perhaps mulching the roots up a bit so they don't dry out too much, then replanting in the autumn as you are thinking to do. I had a plant which thrust itself out of the earth (though not quite as much as yours), but it seemed to do OK.

So far I have always heard/read that peonies should be planted shallowly, but tubers should be just below ground level. This may be a tad too exposed.

You can always mound up around it, I think it'd be okay.

Thank you all, I was getting worried I was “killing” my peony!
