The house prices are relevant though, people laugh at the price of our first house, we spent 5 years living in a caravan.,in 1970,we didn't have a washing machine,I had a mangle, then a spin dryer, when we bought a house in 1975, for 9k, I was earning Β£9a week working full-time,the (ex) husband Β£13 aweek.o cycled everywhere didn't drive,we didn't have holidays or go out, thought it was more important to buy property. In our last house which we bought for cash but was completely unmodernised,we didn't have double glazing or central heating, that wasn't the dark ages. it was 15 years ago
Houses in Cornwall are on the market for just one day, Β they are on the net world wide, no one even comes to Β look at them, Β no young Cornish person will ever be able to buy now. My dad bought our house in London for Β£1,000 pounds, not long sold of a million.Β I give thanks everyday that he did that.Β
Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.Β
Houses in our village in South Cumbria sell before they hit the market unless there's an issue with them. How? Well the estate agents email people who missed out on one house when something similar comes up for market. They then see the house and put offer in about the time the house goes up on two popular online house sites.
We went to view a house day after it went live, my partner attached the viewing 2 minutes after the estate agent pressed the button to upload it. She pressed search and it came up. We drove there to view it only to hang around waiting for estate agent. Called them and got apology because the house was sold. A month later the house next door came on the market and we got the heads up before anyone else. Viewed Friday afternoon one of the last viewings the agent did. Nobody else got to see it because one minute after the estate agent opened we'd out an offer in. Wasn't accepted but 15 minutes later our second offer was accepted.
That's the way housesΒ sold last year. We moved in this year in march. It took a long time to go through. We're now in a house within a couple of minutes walk from a river estuary that's more like a seaside than river. It's a tourist village in summer but not like bogner or Sidmouth. It's calmer and nicer IMHO. Perfect lockdown house!! Planning for the next one such I suspect will come. Our summer holiday will be at home complete with seaside days from our front door or hill walking from our front or back door. With a park for a garden albeit a messy, sloping and smaller park than you see in cities and towns.
Why can't they keep that fuss over football to the sport pages so I can ignore it? Haven't MPs got anything more importantΒ to worry about?
Huge numbers of people in this country are football fans.Β MPs of any colour would be taking a huge risk if they ignored them.Β Whether they can actually do anything to stop the formation of a Super League is another matter.
Alright Northern Jo,we get the picture. What I was trying to say really, was in the main, well everyone I worked with and all my youngest daughter's friends, the twenty grand wedding, they all had the house and everything in it, plus a couple of cars, latest smartphones, holidays abroad. We scrimped and scraped,I often had 2 or 3jobs,even at one point going from a night shift. to a day shift when hubby was made redundant. This isn't a grump,we worked damn hard for what we have.Nah, getting in first, wonder if it's tempting fate, the saga of my scripts which I was assured by surgery and pharmacy,I have just ONE tablet left, they haven't texted so will have to visit, not looking forward to it!!
Allotment Boy, B3, you might not care but what is being proposed could have a huge impact on a football tradition that has developed over 150 years. It is almost universally regarded as a detrimental move by the huge number of people in this country who follow football and for them (and me) it is a very significant news story. Saying otherwise shows a lack of empathy.
As someone who has neither knowledge nor love about football, it strikes me that football in recent decades has become ALL about money. Players move at the drop of a lucrative contract, managers get sacked at the drop of a hat,new strips to suck money out of gullible fans who feel they MUST buy one ,and one for the kids. It's not about Loyalty at all.
I agree Hosta, Hubby says he hates football, has watched England says they don't play asΒ a team, they do get ridiculous wages whether they play well or not so what's the insentiive, seems like most of them can't keep it in their pants, drink and drug parties. He will watch women's football.Ironically when I met my first husband he played for the seagulls, his father put a stop to it said it wasn't a "proper"job!!
