Blind daffodils

Once daffodils have come up blind, with no flowers, is this the end or is it possible to help them so they will flower next year?

When they finish flowering sprinkle some fertiliser around them and make sure they stay watered, rain is fine if there is any. Also dead head them. I have noticed that when the weather is very dry while the leaves are dying they are more likely to be blind the following year. I planted a lot of daffodils nearly 30 years ago at my old house and some years there were more flowers than others.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
  • I am generally successful with my daffs and follow this procedure - but once they are blind can they be retrieved or should they be dug up and replaced the following Autumn with new bulbs?

You can also water the foliage with tomato fertiliser.  Leave it to die down naturally, don't tie it up or cut it off.

The other possibility is that your bulbs are very overcrowded, if they've multiplied over the years, and would benefit from being given more space.
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
