Cucumbers

Mark-EMark-E Posts: 184
Hi,

We have sown some cucumber seeds.  I was wondering when potting on,  should the stems be buried to encourage additional root growth similar to tomatoes?

Thanks,

Mark

    They're different from tomatoes.
You should always repot at the same depth with cucumbers.
If you plant them even a bit deeper your plant may well suffer from 'stem rot' and the plant will die.

Planting them on slight mounds also helps a bit with preventing stem rot.

That's just what I do when I put mine in its final pot.

Can I ask how long your took to come up? I planted some cucumber seeds a few weeks ago and nothing yet... (in the greenhouse)

They took between 3 days and a week.  They are Bella F1 variety.
  • Thank you - that’s quick! I may need to sow again.

would have thought a greenhouse would be too cold at the moment.  I sowed Delikate on 9.3, first one is 3 inches tall, second one just through the compost,in heated conservatory window sill
