Toilet / kitchen Rolls as pots

Is there any truth in the claim that making these roll inards into pots is dangerous because the card contains carcinogenic chemicals? I planted carrots seed in them which seems to work well but I also notice I get small fungi growing in them ... Fairies' Bonnets to be specific...not poisonous apparently....anyone else get this ?

was also put off using newspaper because of the ink composition - that was more like 30 years ago!

I have started making them again and had good results. I always get some fluffy mould but never had fungi in the pots.

Just to note discovered that newspaper ink is essentially soya based so been making paper pots like crazy for the parsnips.

I grew my broad beans in toilet rolls, very healthy plants now, I have planted these into my raised bed. My sweet peas are still doing well in the toilet rolls. Good luck

Yes, I have sown some carrots - they are just surfacing now. This will be a first time.

Grown parsnips in toilet roll tubes for the last few years with no problems at all and much better results than direct sowing into the garden

I am growing sweet peas some in loo rolls but not as good as the ones grown in deep pots. Seeds were all sown at same time but pot ones def growing stronger.
