Help me identify a plant from my childhood..

WildliferWildlifer Posts: 52
hey all

ive been trying to find a plant I remember fondly from my childhood. It was a large evergreen shrub (I think it was evergreen) very dark green foliage large leaves, big flower heads that were very round and burst into multi petal deep pink flowers.
I did wonder if it was some kind of peony maybe I’m not sure?

I’ve been looking at garden centres and catalogues to no avail....
any help would be most welcome x

What time of year did the flowers appear?

Nope, really dense flowers larger flower heads, it used to flower in summer and I made perfume from the petals, as you do at 8 years old.

Some peonies are scented, but they're not evergreen

My mums going to drive to our old home and see if it’s still there tomorrow, and take a photo which should help!

I now live a few hundred miles away down south

Hydrangea?  I don't know how old you are but I remember one my Grandma had in front of her window in the 50s.  I believe they were quite fashionable then. Some are evergreen.

Kalmia perhaps? The flowers remind me of Iced Gems.
