Polystyrene for sure. I have also been known to stuff old compost bags at the bottom of large tall post when I couldn't get hold of polystyrene, works okay too.
Oh they're nice, I like the first one. When I've seen Monty planting up his small bulbs he has ones like this but I've just never seen them in garden centres.
Plastic Soda bottles with the lid on; upside down wine bottles.
Old Cotton / wool - jumpers, t shirts etc at the bottom can use up space and help hold in moisture. Just make sure the pot can drain and not getting clogged up with fabric.
I ruined a stanley knife trying to cut them into halves/quarters for smaller pots so started to put them whole into larger pots and they work a treat without adding too much weight. They do biodegrade slowly which you'll see when re-potting.
We use corks too, they work a treat and are long-lasting unlike the wine 🙄 They also look quite good as a mulch for larger pots - we used the champagne corks from our wedding to mulch a bay tree, which was also a wedding present. I just use them whole and they work fine in any pot 2L upwards.

@BenCotto 495 quid for a single bowl planter.. yes it looks gorgeous but I think I would rather buy a decent sized poly tunnel instead.. or 20 new potted roses.. or 30 bottles of good quality wine.. 😉
