Compost for growing on

Hi all,

Got a good bunch of zinnia and dahlia seedlings that aren't far off being pricked out and potted on. Would it be OK to use the seed compost I used originally or would I need to use a different one?

Hi @oliver.greatbatch. I would suggest you pot on into something a bit richer - multi-purpose compost should be fine. Seed compost won't have the nutrients the seedlings need to develop. This might help: https://www.gardenersworld.com/how-to/grow-plants/how-to-grow-dahlias-from-tubers/.

Hi @oliver.greatbatch, multipurpose compost is the best choice, also some perlite added would help but only if you have some

I always make a mix of multipurpose and sharp sand for potting on - just to improve drainage while they’re sat in pots.
