Dwarf Pampas Grass dead?

Hi, I bought a cortaderia sellano pumila late last summer and planted it up. It is not looking to good now. I don't see any green/new growth anywhere.

I've attached a pic. Is it dead? I've no experience of this plant so not sure how long it takes for spring growth to start coming through.

I have to admit it's not looking good. I would remove the dead stuff and assume it's dead. But don't dig it up, you might get a surprise.

I agree it doesn't look too good. Apparently you're supposed to protect the crown over Winter and they are supposed to be evergreen? A bit more info here that might help

Thank you both. It's a shame. I really love it and I ordered it specially. I did do a bit of research before I got it and I don't remember reading that it needed protecting on RHS site you linked or Gardeners world pages, but I've just noticed it now! It was pretty bad weather wise where I am too. I lost 2 euonymus and a few conatiners of bulbs which have always been fine
  • I have experience with pampas.  Mine is 4 years old, very healthy, 30 plumes.  They require loose soil, lots of sand and grit dug in, plenty of space for it to grow and as much sun as you can throw at it.

It doesn't look great but it may regrow......I would leave it alone for another couple of weeks, you might be pleasantly surprised

@jan.sherlock46BAI1EJz5  I am new to Pampas, and have some Cortaderia Splendid Star in pots.  They are getting too big for the pots, and I was thinking of dividing them now.  Is this an OK time of year to do so?
