Garden Drainage

I am in the process of removing and relaying a patio in my back garden. The garden is small, 15m wide by 5.5m deep. The 3 sides all have neighbours walls running along the boundary.

The soil is also clay based so drainage isn't great.

At the moment there is a small soakaway (but nothing more than a small hole in the ground filled with rubble) which the roof drains into. I can divert the guttering to the front of the house but i need a solution for water on the patio.

I can't run drainage to the front as there's no access.

How do i solve the problem? Ideas would be really welcomed!!

  • It's a tricky one. It may be a bit of a left-field solution but might it work to build a deep rill or pool into the patio with a drainage channel/slope that would funnel the rainwater into it? The pic is a bit OTT but just to show the general idea.
