Pruning Umbrella plant (Schefflera)

It's got a bit unruly, it's on a growth spurt again and as you can see my last effort of a Wigwam to hold it up is working. But I want to prune it, does anyone have any experience of doing it ? I think on researching how too I might have to be brutal and cut the bottom stickey out shoots.

You can cut them almost to the bottom. I have two, one i'm growing as a tall single stem, the other as a bonsai over a rock. I've cut the 'bonsai' one repeatedly about an inch from the base to force multible stems.
If you cut off a stem, you can stick the cutting into a fresh pot and it should grow away quite easily.

It's going to have a a prune on the bottom two branches sticking out and will pot them up in some gritty compost, nothing lost. It is a bit of a feature in our Living Room so don't really want to chop the top. It's about 11yrs old and I enjoy cleaning all the leaves with milk and cotton wool pads very therapeutic know what I mean it comes up nice and shiny. Thanks Balgay.Hill
