Potting mix for Tracycarpus Fortunei - your experience

Just before I pot up my mothers day gift - any tried and tested potting mix tips from you experienced gardeners there ? Many thanks from a newbie

    My experience is zero on palms but Google says a soil based potting medium which is what you would use for any long term plant.  So John innes 3. They aren't really meant for pots long term though according to this website.

    Agree with @K67 they aren't meant for pots.
    However many years ago we did have one in a pot that was our "christmas" tree for that year. It was great with very delicate gold decorations. Our sons loved it even though they couldn't believe we had done it instead of the real tree.
    It is now planted in our garden and over 20 feet with a very robust trunk.
    Looks great but would never have lasted long in a pot.

    I mixed half John Innes 3 and half soil I think.
    "What is hateful to you, do not do to your neighbour".

    hi there- thanks for the help- I did look it up and there were suggestions of JI no 3 plus coir or fibrous  or sand  ... Only potting as we are doing garden in the next 12m so sort want to have to move it ...
