Pests centipedes?

    That's not a wireworm ... they have stiff and much less flexible bodies and don't have all those legs

    @Dovefromabove thanks for this link. It clearly shows a snake centipede which I had been misidentifying as wireworms since childhood. I had always thought the bulkier centipedes were the only ones I would see and had thought these skinnier ones were wireworms but thanks to your link I can see I was wrong.

    You’re not the only one @robairdmacraignil 😊 👍  ... I’ve been carefully and very tentatively (and on some occasions totally ineffectively) trying to explain just that to gardeners and allotmenteers ever since I was shown the difference when I was at school with a remarkable lad who grew up to be a naturalist and explorer. 

    Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
