Plant identification

does anyone know what this shrub/tree is?

    Looks like something in the Prunus family, such as a red-leaved ornamental cherry.
    A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.

    It looks very like a shoot of purple-leaved plum, Prunus cerasifersa nigra. Mine is a tree though (not far off the height of the house) and is in full bloom at the moment - single pale pink flowers with dark anthers.
    Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained
