End of garden creeping down slope (disused railway cutting).

The end of my mums garden is creeping down hill, as they’re is a disused railway cutting behind. This has happened over 30 years.  Any suggestions for preventing any further creeping?  Many thanks for any ideas

    Welcome to the forum.
I think you'd be best speaking to a structural engineer.
    Devon.
  • Probably right, although whole road would need to as well.

Depending on how bad it is, you may have to contact the local council to assess.

I assume the creeping down hill is due to rain water runoff eroding the slope as it runs down into the railway. You can slow this down with a dense perennial border at the bottom of the garden or a cluster of trees. This will help anchor soil and stop it washing down hill so easily.

An alternative is to terrace the garden.
  • Thanks, that may be what’s needed.
