Plant Identification please

KeithsterKeithster Posts: 29
This small plant - 6 inches tall approx - appeared early last year in my garden.  I potted it up and have kept it watered since then. It lost its leaves over the winter and has now started leafing up again.  It has thorns.  It hasn't grown much in the last year.

Can anyone help me with identification?  It didn't flower last year and its leaves don't have a smell to them.  There's nothing else in my garden that looks similar so it must have seeded from somewhere.  I'd be grateful for any ideas.

Thank you everyone - not sure where it came from, but I'm happy to have a gooseberry plant!
