Bushy Delphinium

Hi, below is my delphinium, it was a present last year, when it had 5 or so good spikes, so I'm not sure how old it is. I have read that you should cut back some of the shoots to promote better flowering. Do readers agree? If so, how do I choose which ones, and do I cut them right down to the ground? How many do I cut?

    I haven't heard of thinning the shoots to promote flowering, but I think it would probably result in fewer but bigger flower spikes. It sounds like the kind of thing people who grow for flower show competitions would do.
    I think the best thing to do would be to find it a place in the ground. They're hungry, thirsty plants and not really very suitable for growing in pots. If you don't have any space in the ground for it, you could try a much larger container.
