Not too late to plant seeds......

  • Oh help I have gone and done this! is there any way of telling the difference between the sweet pea pods and the sugar snap pea pods?  I may have to uproot them all as my dog loves sugar snap peas and i can't risk him eating some.

Sugar snap peas have much larger pods than the ornamental sweet peas.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Have all the flowers gone? The sweet pea flowers are much larger than the edible peas, and of course smell lovely

@gategirl76gR3AS6qa - sweet pea seed pods are hairy so you'll not mistake them for sugar peas, which are smooth and shiny & very fat when ready to eat.
Edited to say: perhaps furry is a better description - but if you google images of sweet pea pods, you'll see what I mean!
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
  • Thank you everyone I ended up emailing the company I got the seeds from and they said the same about the pods being furry (I kind of remember this from when my parents grew them). So I am happy that the dog and I can sit and munch away on the peas each time we are in the garden (they will never make it to the fridge or an actual meal).

    Thank you all again.

Sweet pea pods also turn dark and 'fuzzy' very quickly, unlike the edibles. The s. pea seeds themselves are much smaller, and almost black, so it would be quite difficult to mix them up   :)
