Planting

Hello!  I am wanting to plant  an iceberg  climbing rose to run up trellis to cover my fence.  Just  dicovered there is loads of bluebells sprouting up where I want to plant.  Should i plant in a pot or the soil?  Will this still be ok?  Would either effect the other? I also have a cherry blossom tree in the same vicinity and want to ensure they all will work with each other. Any advice would be fab!   Thanks!

  • Personally, I would not be worried about the bluebells and would put the rose in the ground rather than a pot. Unless you're out in the countryside with bluebells in woodlands you probably have Spanish bluebells.

I wouldn't worry about the tree too much. Trees established trees are often used as host plants for climbing roses. I would only worry if the tree is young and the rose is likely to grow into it in the immediate future.
  • Oh thanks so much. The rose is basically to stop intruders hopefully with some thorny bits. I also have a thing for white roses!
