NewBoy2NewBoy2 Posts: 1,813
I am growing French , Runner , Butter and Yin yang beans for the first time and an allotmenteer has suggested I use bamboos and place a wind break around them.

Silly question No 8...........how high should the break be.
Everyone is just trying to be Happy.....So lets help Them.

It's always windy where I am and I have never used a windbreak on my runner beans as such, though there is a length of approx 3ft/1metre windbreak netting along the windward fence of the veg garden as a whole. French beans are a little more sensitive, but again I have grown the dwarf ones without problems. If yours are the climbing version, some protection at the base while they are establishing and getting a hold of the canes might help. Ask one or two others if they think it is necessary where you are :)
